Soil formation and its significance

Image
A] What is Soil? Soil is the most important resource for us, because we get almost all our food directly or indirectly from it. Vegetables, fruits and animal products and much of our clothing, everything is obtained from soil. It has been derived from parent rock material through process of Weathering( breakdown / dissolving of rocks and minerals on the Earth's surface due changes in the temperatures). Nature and its elements also play important role in existence of soil. Changes in temperatures, running water and wind, contribute in evolution of soil. Chemical and organic changes in soil are also equally important. Whereas, these factors do not act on soil independently or in isolation, but in close association with each other. Fine vegetal and animal remains known as Humus add fertility to soil. It results in making soil fertile. Faulty agricultural practices, deforestation and overgrazing have led to soil erosion in many parts. As a result, soil conservation through improved ag...

Significance of Remote Sensing and GIS.

Image
A]   What is meant by Remote Sensing? Remote Sensing is a process of collecting information of an object with the help of Electromagnetic Radiation from a particular distance in space, without being in direct physical contact with the object. The information is recorded by various sensors attached to the platforms established at great distance in space. These sensors record the reflected and radiated electromagnetic energy from various features on the Earth's surface. Further, the recorded information is used to form images and maps. For a remote sensing system to work, sensors, cameras, platforms, etc. are required in order to collect, transmit and analyze the recorded data. B]  Sensors and Platforms: Remote Sensing platforms can be defined as the structures or vehicles on which remote sensing instruments are mounted. Typical platforms are satellites and aircrafts, but they can also include radio- controlled airplanes, balloon kits for low altitude remote sensing, ...

What is Climate Change? What are the factors affecting it?

Image
What is Climate? Climate refers to the typical characteristic pattern of weather elements at a particular place for a longer period. It can be described as the average measurement of temperatures, wind, humidity, snow and rain in a particular region over the course of years.  Whereas, the Weather conditions at a place can change from hour to hour and day to day, for a shorter period of time.   Climate change or Global Climatic Crisis is a serious matter that is being experienced in different parts of the world. It has increased the rate of mortalities through different aspects. The changes in the climate may be natural, but since 1800s human activities have been the main cause of Climate change, due to factors like burning of fossil fuels like coal, oil and gas, which produce heat- trapping gases that are harmful for the environment.  As a result, excess usage of these resources is the main reason we are going through major environmental issues which act as ob...

What is Geography?

Image
Geography is simply," the science that studies the Earth's physical features, atmosphere, and resources. It is a process that deals with the study of various components of Earth such as Water, landforms, marine ecosystem, and the environment. The term Geography is derived from the Greek word "Geo"(meaning Earth) and "Graphos" (meaning to write about), explicating " the study of Earth". There are subfields in Geography consisting of Geomorphology, Climatology, Human geography, Meteorology, Economic geography, population, and political geography. Geography can also be described as a spatial science that deals with various aspects of social science (eg; history, anthropology, economics, psychology), physical science (eg; Climate and weather), and geospatial data science (eg; GIS and Remote Sensing). Through the study of Geography, students learn to read the maps and interpret the information at local and global scales. Similarly, the study helps to ...
